ORock Technologies Achieves FedRAMP Moderate Authorization for ORockCloud
First Red Hat OpenStack-based Cloud to Reach FedRAMP Moderate Status
RESTON, Va., July 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — ORock® Technologies, Inc., a cloud service provider (CSP) and federal small business, announced today that its cloud solution, ORockCloud, has received FedRAMP authorization at the Moderate Impact Level from the U.S. federal government. ORockCloud was granted an Authorization to Operate (ATO) by a Department of Defense agency and is now FedRAMP authorized for both Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) models, as well as hybrid cloud deployments.
ORockCloud provides a highly-scalable cloud environment based on Red Hat OpenStack Platform with strong security capabilities and elastic, on-demand access to computing, storage, virtualization, networking, performance monitoring, and applications in ORock’s service catalog. It is built on ORock’s private, carrier-grade fiber optic network to maximize security, autonomy, and performance.
As a Red Hat Premier Certified Cloud and Service Provider (CCSP), ORock Technologies architected ORockCloud as a “pure-play” Red Hat cloud that incorporates a suite of Red Hat’s open source solutions for enhanced flexibility, security features and control. These include: Red Hat Enterprise Linux; Red Hat OpenStack Platform; Red Hat Virtualization; Red Hat Ceph Storage; Red Hat CloudForms; Red Hat Ansible Tower; Red Hat Satellite; and associated cloud APIs.
FedRAMP, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, is a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach for assessing, authorizing and continuously monitoring the security of cloud products and services. ORockCloud is now listed as “FedRAMP Authorized” on the FedRAMP Marketplace, the central repository of approved federal cloud solutions.
According to the FedRAMP office, Moderate Impact systems account for nearly 80 percent of CSP applications that receive FedRAMP authorization. They are “most appropriate for cloud service offerings where the loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability would result in serious adverse effects on a government agency’s operations, assets, or individuals.” To receive authorization at the Moderate Impact Level, CSPs must demonstrate they have satisfied 325 specific security controls.
“Achieving FedRAMP Moderate authorization for ORockCloud is a significant step for ORock and the first of many announcements we anticipate as we pursue additional certifications and higher levels of authorization,” said Gregory Hrncir, Co-Founder and CEO of ORock. “This milestone demonstrates to our federal and commercial customers that the U.S. government has confidence in ORock’s ability to secure their sensitive, mission-critical applications and workloads in the cloud and protect them from threats.”
“As federal agencies move to the cloud, many are opting for hybrid cloud environments that can offer the flexibility and scalability they are seeking with greater security,” said David Egts, chief technologist, Public Sector at Red Hat. “With this FedRAMP authorization, customers can have greater confidence that ORockCloud – built on a foundation of Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud technologies – can meet their security requirements for cloud solutions.
We’re excited to support ORock as a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider that is using open source technologies to help meet the needs of our government and commercial customers and we congratulate them on ORockCloud’s FedRAMP authorization.”
